Cleaning Tips for Silver Jewellery
We suggest you keep your jewellery in a jewellery box lined with felt and not the packaging it is purchased in – this is for presentation purposes only – to help keep it tarnish free.
Pure silver would be a soft metal, far too soft to be made into jewellery that could withstand daily wear and tear. Therefore, most silver jewellery comprises sterling silver, an alloy of silver, strengthened by other metals.
The standard sterling silver (925) alloy is a reference to it’s composition; 925 parts per thousand silver, 75 parts per thousand other metals (usually copper). This recipe enables beautiful silver jewellery pieces to be created without losing any of their splendour.
Sterling Silver
Heat, perfume, hairspray, chlorinated water, salt water and household cleaning products can all tarnish your sterling silver jewellery. To clean your silver use a soft cotton, anti tarnish cloth. We would not recommend the use of jewellery solutions or dips.
Rose Gold/Yellow Gold and Black Rhodium Plating
This plating process is a surface finish and will wear over time. Avoid chemicals and remove your jewellery when showering or swimming. To clean buff gently with a soft cloth.
Pearls
Pearls are soft porous material, and harsh abrasive cleaners can remove their lustre, and scratch their surface. They are particularly susceptible to loss of shine. To maintain their natural beauty, wipe them with a soft, damp cloth.
To avoid damage, keep your jewellery in separate pouches, and fasten all chains and catches before storing flat. When jewellery is damp we suggest you allow it to dry fully before storing, using a lint free cloth will help.
